O filho herdou a vocação para a música, mas cantava somente nas festas de família. Na época ele queria mesmo era ser um atleta, tanto que entrou na Universidade de Oklahoma com uma bolsa parcial para atleta, mas descobriu que queria seguir a carreira de músico.
